Common questions
How does KidneyBite identify food in my photos?
Your photo is sent securely to Anthropic's Claude vision model, which suggests foods and portion cues. We then align those foods with public nutrition references like USDA Food Data Central. Portions are estimates - real plates vary.
Why doesn't Apple Health show phosphorus the way I expect?
Apple Health does not have a native phosphorus data type, so KidneyBite tracks phosphorus inside the app only. With Pro, you can opt in to sync sodium, potassium, protein, and energy to Apple Health from your logged meals.
How accurate are the nutrient estimates?
They're estimates. Photos can miss hidden ingredients, and databases can differ from a manufacturer's label. Use KidneyBite as a planning tool alongside label reading - not a substitute for lab work or dietitian guidance.
Can I share my data with my nephrologist?
Yes. Pro includes a doctor-ready PDF you can share when you choose. You're always in control of what leaves your device.
How do I cancel my subscription?
On iPhone: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → KidneyBite, then cancel. You can also open the app's subscription management entry points before checkout.
How do I delete my data?
Open KidneyBite, go to Profile → Privacy & data → Delete all my data. That removes on-device meal history managed by the app. Apple Health entries written by KidneyBite may be removed via the Health app if you want them gone too.
Why does my history only show a few meals on the free plan?
The free experience includes the three most recent analyses so you can try the flow without paying. Upgrading expands history and weekly insights, within the analysis limits shown in-app.
Does KidneyBite work without internet?
You need a connection to send a new photo for analysis and to refresh subscription status. Older saved meals on your device may still be viewable offline, depending on what the app has already stored locally.
Is my photo stored on your servers?
KidneyBite does not operate a cloud photo library. Your saved meal history stays on your device. Photos are sent to Anthropic for AI analysis - per Anthropic's policy, API requests are not used to train their models, and content is retained for a short safety review window (typically ~30 days) before being deleted. See the Privacy Policy for more details.
Does KidneyBite work for dialysis patients?
Many people on dialysis still track fluids and minerals closely - KidneyBite can be a logging aid if your care team agrees it fits your plan. It does not replace prescribed limits from your clinic. Always follow your nephrologist and renal dietitian.
